The American Red Cross Biomedical Services will fulfill the needs of the American people for the safest, most reliable and most cost-effective blood services through voluntary donations.

Arizona

American Red Cross Blood Service Arizona Region was founded in 1948 in Tucson. It is one of 35 regions in the national Red Cross Biomedical Services, whose purpose is to provide reliable and safe blood products through voluntary donations. The Arizona Region collects blood nearly every day of the year within the state's 14 counties, covering more than 114,000 square miles. To provide a steady supply of blood products for 25 hospitals across Arizona, the region needs about 300 volunteer blood donors each day. The region's fixed donor centers provide about 27 percent of the needed blood, while the remaining 73 percent comes from mobile blood drives sponsored by schools, religious groups, businesses, communities, military organizations and civic groups. The headquarters and southern Arizona operations center are in Tucson. The northern Arizona operations center is in Phoenix.

Blood Donors

Blood donors are everyday people with a desire to give back to their community. They are high school students, business executives and everyone in between—people with a generous spirit, whose gift means life to patients in need.

Whether at a blood drive in a community or at a donation center in the city, every one of our donors plays an integral role in the delivery of modern healthcare. Many diseases, surgeries and conditions require blood transfusions in order for treatments to be successful and recovery to be possible.
